Your guide to choosing the right Cutter, Guillotine or Trimmer!
The Difference between Guillotines and Trimmers
Guillotines cut using a shear action and Rotary Trimmers slice through the paper from the side.
Guillotines
Guillotines are versatile and can be used for many cutting tasks on a variety of materials. Some heavy duty models will cut right up to 500 sheets of paper. The material is cut by a shear action using the upper blade to progressively contact the fixed bottom blade at the base of the paper. The integral guards are designed to prevent injury but of course guillotines should be handled with care.
Trimmers
Rotary trimmers are mainly used to cut paper of 20-25 sheets at a time. The cut is quick, accurate and virtually burr free as the blade carrier is slid along the paper from the side. The cut can be made in both directions and the blade actually sharpens itself against the bottom blade in operation. Rotary trimmers are relatively safe to use as the blade is covered by it’s housing, thus preventing accidental injury.
